Omonia climb to third after fifth straight win

We scored four goals and had many more opportunities to increase our tally. We played well, and got what we came here for,” said Omonia coach Toni Savevski.Lukasz Gikiewicz broke the deadlock only seven minutes into the game and Nuno Assis made it 2-0 six minutes later. Joao Paulo Andrade scored the third in the 38th minute, while Anthony Scaramozzino set up the final score 17 minutes from time.“I would like to congratulate my players on the win and their team performance. It is clear that we can win games now, but we need to be humble and down to earth,” Savevski concluded.In-form Ermis Aradippou meanwhile were held to a goalless draw against AEK Larnaca at the GSZ Stadium, while Ivaylo Petev’s AEL beat Anorthosis 3-1 at the Tsirion Stadium in Limassol.“This was a big derby. We took the lead and that gave us confidence as we were in control for most of the game and I believe that we deserved this victory,” said Petev.Luciano Bebe opened proceedings in the 10th minute, but Gonzalo Garcia leveled the score from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute. Eight minutes after the interval Savo Pavicevic netted an own goal to restore AEL’s lead before Orlando Sa set up the final score 15 minutes later.“I am very pleased with how my players played. They were determined which is very important. We work to improve ourselves and this coming break in the championship will be good for us,” Petev added.Elsewhere in Round 9, Doxa Katokopia celebrated a 3-0 victory away from home against Ethnikos Achnas, while Nea Salamina needed a last minute penalty to overcome Aris Limassol 2-1.In the final two matches of the round on Monday evening (7pm), APOEL host rock bottom Alki, while league leaders Apollon visit Enosis Neon Paralimni.last_img
